Long Overdue Newsletter - October 2024

Updated: Nov 4

Halloween: You Know What That Means...

We've got a new Hopper's Dell from T.C. Pendragon.

This is a sequel to the original Hopper's Dell released last October.

Pre-order is available now. I'm expecting this to ship by November 10th. It'll also be available on Amazon in a matter of days.

Fan of Hopper's Dell? Make sure to check out T.C. Pendragon's first Long Overdue book, Martin Blackbriar, if you haven't already.

For the Home Chefs in Your Life

If you're looking to do some early Christmas shopping, I can't recommend this book enough. Especially if you're a cook, you know a cook, or you're watching a lot of Food Network thinking about cooking more often.

Our new cookbook is beautiful, contains delicious recipes, and gives ya the chance to bring the dishes from Black & Caspian in Chicago into your home kitchen.

Importance of Giving that One Editing Note that You're Nervous to Make

Alright, so Dwyane Wade. Hall of Fame basketball player. Top 50 player of all time.

This week, his statue was revealed in front of the Miami Heat arena.

And, well, it's not exactly a spitting image... I'll allow you to give it a quick Google search. See ya back here in a couple of seconds

The story was all over the internet. My Twitter/X feed had endless memes about it. And look, I'm not trying to pick on the artists. But here's what it made me think of: that uncomfortable moment when ya wanna deliver feedback, but you're worried it might hurt the other person's feelings.

If you have a friend's book manuscript, and there's something in there that's just not working for you as the reader, let them know about it. Deliver it kindly. Be respectful about it. But it's a much better feeling, as an author, to hear the feedback while it's still in production when you have time to make changes vs. that curtain coming down and the crowd saying, "Huh?"

So, next time you're having that internal wrestling match -- should I say something, should I not -- remember this Dwyane Wade statue. And don't be surprised if the author thanks you in their book for helping them improve their story.

National Novel Writing Month

For those who've always wanted to write a novel, the annual National Novel Writing Month in November is a great way to add some structure, community, and encouragement to reach the goal of a completed manuscript. If you plan on participating this year, let us know. Would love to hear about your project and cheer you on.

14 days to go!

I am so excited about this trip. Gonna take the Long Overdue show on the road, 1,120 miles south from Chicago down to Austin, Texas. I mean we're flying down there, but still, feels like a literary road trip. I've heard nothing but great things about this book festival and hope to make this an annual tradition along with Printers Row Lit Fest each year in Chicago. See ya soon, Texas!

"Yeah, but does Austin have a lakefront

and skyline like THIS?"
