Books make for excellent gifts.
But before heading to the New York Times Bestseller list, and certainly before logging on Amazon, we'd like to share our 6 new Long Overdue books from 2022 for your shopping consideration.
You know what, since we're in the holiday spirit, we've created a coupon code just for the occasion. Type in "TURKEY" at checkout for 10% off. Discount applies all the way through Christmas.
Alright, let's check out the catalog. Note - You can either click on the book covers or the order button to head to our online bookstore.
Our Top Seller
The authors of this book (Melody Smith, Kim Jockl, Jim Borchers) recently visited a book club. A few of the readers there said it best: I thought this book would be about a plane crash, but it was so much more than that.
That was also our experience editing this book. It's an incredibly inspiring story about family, love, and the importance of banding together even through unimaginable loss. We've been thrilled to hear from readers who are inspired by this book to get together with their siblings and write down their family history.
Two-Sentence Blurb - This book tells the incredible journey of three siblings over the last 40+ years grieving their parents' sudden loss, coming together as a family, and working hard to honor the lives of all 273 lost on Flight 191. It's an inspirational Chicago story about love, family, and how tragedy gets a big word, but it never gets the final word.
Children's Board Books
Love this story. Pre-pandemic, Vicki Toups Sheaffer (author) and Kristie Kaiser Frudden (illustrator) had never written or published a book.
Fast forward to 2022, and they have 2 children's board books to their names. AND they both welcomed their first grandkids into this world. Their first book (Oh Mother How Funny) was dedicated to Jack (Vicki's grandson). Their latest book (Oh Baby It's A Clear Lake) dedicated to Olivia (Kristie's granddaughter). We're hoping for a complete trilogy in 2023!
Now they're in local bookstores like Red Balloon in St. Paul, Minnesota and the coffee shop/kitchen/bakery called Yum! If you're local to the area, feel free to stop into those spots, otherwise checkout these titles in the Long Overdue bookstore.
More Children's Books
We had the opportunity to collaborate with Ice Cream Fine Storybooks on three new titles. Each one has amazing illustrations (by Kate Buss - also a St. Paul, Minnesota local) and fun, comedic storytelling.
Can't go wrong with any of these three books, but if you're struggling to pick one, well, might as well go with all three!
Back of Book Description - Who do you blame when all your socks go missing? It couldn’t possibly be that a ferocious sock-eating monster has snuck into your closet... But if one has and you manage to catch him, if you give him food and shelter and treat him kindly, he may just be tamed.
Tagline - Learn your ABCs and improve your mon-ster-ese with this remarkably illustrated collection of beautiful, bizarre, and downright hilarious monsters.
Back of Book Description - In a misty barn on the outskirts of town, a family of unicorns are just beginning their day. Dad trots off to work with his hat and briefcase, Mom is still wrestling Baby into his highchair, while Brother and Sister are off inventing some fun new game to play.
It’s just another day in the life for this quirky family of unicorns!
And last but not least, another first-time children's book author: Harry Trumfio.
Harry had the story written but was looking for an illustrator. Through a mixture of fate, luck, and a little bit of LinkedIn, we found him one... 6,000 miles away! Dena Ackerman (over in Israel) proceeded to create all of the illustrations and we did all of the interactions over email and Zoom.
Boy, are we glad we found Dena! Take a look at these illustrations.
We still have some hardcover copies as well as softcover. Share this children's book about a father with a lifelong dream of being a candy maker and his two sons who will help him fulfill this vision and have some fun in the process.
"Oldies but Goodies"
For us, "Oldies" means 2-4 years old. Unfortunately, the "TURKEY" coupon code will only apply for Martin Blackbriar since the other two titles are on Amazon. But here's a quick blurb on some OG Long Overdue Books.
Here or There - This book is a comedy with a side dish of philosophy. It’s about embracing the experience as we travel from Here to There.
Martin Blackbriar and the Necronomicon - The story of our generation’s Witch and Wizard, Martin and Ali Blackbriar. They will wield all the powers that magic can offer, provided they can survive against the forces that wish to use them, or end them before their journey even begins.
Strawberry Moon - What starts as an exciting move becomes more difficult with each passing chapter. Maisie is left navigating this complicated new world, all while trying to plan the rest of her adult life.
We hope you'll enjoy/share/gift a few of these books and if you'd like to speak to someone directly on our team or if there are any issues at checkout, just send an email to library@longoverduestories.com
Thank you for supporting Long Overdue Books! The next newsletter will be either November 29th or 30th, and then one more for the year a couple weeks later in December.
