Writing: You might just be in a busy season of life

There are seasons in life that are just plain busy.

New baby. New job. Maybe an old kid who still sleeps like a new baby.

Busy season at work. Busy season in life. Busy season and hey, let's go get a puppy.

Whatever the season is, the thought of getting up at 4 or 5 AM to write or staying up for a midnight writing session seems downright impossible.

But then you'll see the Tom Brady clip that says, "Fight through it. Dig deep. And how dare you eat pancakes." Or an Olympian who wakes up at 3:30 AM every. single. stinkin'. day.

Something to consider - writing-wise, this might not be a "push through it" season. This might be a "let it marinate" season. Or, as Author and Professor Heather Sellers says, "You're building a compost pile" season.

Books. Movies. TV shows. Podcasts while you're doing chores. All of those go into your compost pile to pop out later as a reference or maybe the perfectly placed analogy.

Taking a cooking class. Skydiving. Sailing. New experiences will show up later in your writing.

Or even simply being in your busy season. Storing those experiences and feelings for later writing.

Scheduling an hour a day for writing might not be in the cards during the busy season. But just because you're not physically writing doesn't mean you're not storing up and generating new ideas for your future writing.
