Bringing a Book to Life

As the birth of her first grandchild approached, Vicki knew she wanted to welcome the next generation into the world in a special way.

One clear Spring night, when the crescent moon shone brightly, she realized that Baby Sheaffer would be the fifth generation to be sung a treasured lullaby. So Vicki decided to preserve her family’s version of the sweet words in a board book. And thus began a beautiful collaboration between dear friends.

A talented artist, Kristie, taught decades of students to discover their creative gifts through art. Kristie’s extraordinary ability to explore the potential of the written word and apply her unique imagination and vision to her illustrations has given life to a family tradition inspired by an almost 200 year old poem. Oh Mother How Funny has been updated for Jack, and is now available to you through Long Overdue Books.

About the Artist

Oh Mother How Funny is illustrator Kristie Kaiser Frudden’s first children’s board book.

After years of illustration work, the opportunity to create the art for Oh Mother How Funny is especially important to Kristie as she awaits the birth of her first grandchild this coming summer.

Kristie taught Elementary Art in Minnesota public schools for 25 years before retiring early to dedicate her time fully to her own art practice. Working with young children for many years offered the opportunity to understand more fully the impact that art and illustration has on the development of literacy skills and the imagination of a young child. Completing her MFA in Illustration at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) further developed her illustrative style and love of illuminating the written word. Kristie continues to explore and celebrate the relationships connecting us and our natural world with her art.
